Walking through - January 29, 2012

The ceiling is speckled and the walls are primed; this place is really starting to look good! It's been really nice to see that our color choices have paid off. We may paint a few other rooms in a different tone, but we really like how this color can be very versatile. It adds a touch of warmth and won't darken the room once the kitchen cabinetry and hardwood go in. It's very refreshing and we couldn't be happier.

Our last place was a mess of Easter colors (I may have had something to do with that); this clearly was a great choice as it makes our home look more 'mature' and not like we're trying too hard to be up with the trends. Another plus is most of our furniture works very well with this color. It's very neutral and since we have a lot of different decor items and themes going on, the color will bring all those little details together seemlessly.

Here are a few more shots of the main level..

Our pile of brick!

I could be jumping the gun, but I think this may be our brick! They aren't labeled or anything like the sub floor was, but we're pretty sure this is ours.

About a week after we officially purchased our home, we went into the sales centre to give our top 3 choices for exterior decor. This particular brick ended up being my second choice but we really liked the accent designs that accompanied the 'mood boards' so we went with this one. (sadly I didn’t think to take any pictures… booo)

To be completely honest, I’m quite happy we went this route, because the design details ended up being much nicer than the other 2 options. The brick is a basic tan-ish color, and the house siding is a very neutral beige. What makes the exterior pop are the red accents; red front door and decorative upper front shingles. Not too sure how that’s all going to look, but I have a feeling it will be spectacular!! Well I'm hoping anyways...

We also noticed they finished the front porch! No more big orange tarp!

Sunday walk through - January 22, 2012

Today was an exciting day! The dust in the house was in full force, but it didn’t really seem to bother us. They seem to be getting more and more done at the house every time we visit. It's been really nice to see all these changes develop from week to week. Today, we showed my brother and his girlfriend the house for the first time!

Something we weren't expecting to see was the framing for a seat bump in one of the spare bedrooms. During our walk through with Carl, we asked that an electrical outlet be relocated since we were hoping to eventually have a seat bump built in the space. We assumed the seat bump would have been an upgrade through the builder but it was never talked about at our design centre meeting and we kind of chalked it up as a write off. But this newest addition was a welcomed surprise!! The great thing about being able to see the seat bump being framed was that if we eventually wanted to have someone come in and modify the bench into some kind of storage for the kids, the option would be there for us since the bench is completely hollow!

I think this week brought a lot of surprises. We really weren't expecting things to get done as fast as they have been especially since our closing date it still months away. If the mudding was finished this quickly, I can only imagine what next week's walk through is going to bring!!

Sunday walk through - January 14, 2012

Earlier today, we found this monster tarp strapped to the front of the house. We can only assume they will be either starting the exterior brick work or they're prepping the front veranda for the cement pouring (which are equally exciting!!).

Also, another big thing is the interior doesn't look like an empty shell anymore! They started the dry wall process, and it's looking so good! For the first time, we can see what the house is going to look like with actual walls. It may be funny to say, but it looks so much bigger than we were initially anticipating. It may be the nine foot ceilings or the fireplace placement; but whatever it is, it's working!

Since there is currently no heating in the house, it’s still pretty cold when we walk through.
In fact, It’s so cold that even some of the windows have cracked!

But were not too worried about that, apparently it happens all the time; we’ll just take their
word for it.

Overall, they turned this around pretty quickly since the frame walk!! I wonder what next weekend is going to bring.. is it too soon to install flooring yet? Maybe I'm getting a little a head of myself here.. :) Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Frame walkin'

Seeing our home go from a huge hole to a completely framed structure in a matter of weeks was surreal.

As we walked through the house for the first time, it was very difficult for us to imagine this windowless shell of plywood and 2x4’s as our home. It took a little getting used to at first; the rooms seemed so much smaller without walls.

When we returned for our ‘official’ frame walk with our builder this week, we started to get a much better idea of how things were going to flow in the house;
The frame walk was a great opportunity for us to figure out how everything was going to be configured from the get go..

When we initially went through the floor plans at our design centre appointment, we figured out where we wanted our overhead lighting, added a few things like expensive upgrades and subtracted others like bathroom lighting and fixtures. All of the planning came together by the time we got to the frame walk.

During our walk through, we pointed things out that needed to be re-checked.. certain electrical outlet placements were a little questionable and we had to move a few around. Other than that, it went really well!

I can’t believe this is going to be our new home!!
